Who Am I?

My name is Rich White. I am an artist, a father, a husband and a lawyer. I was born in 1957, and grew up in Western Massachusetts. I did high school at Williston Northampton School, where I wrestled, played football and studied with artist Barry Moser. At Amherst College, I majored in English, continued making art, and began to teach myself to play guitar.

After graduation,I got married and moved to New York City to teach high school. That lasted one year (the teaching, not the marriage -- that continues). Then I began to prepare for a career as a lawyer, including attending St. John's University School of Law.

I have continued playing guitar and writing music (listening mostly to jazz and blues mixed in with acoustic based rock), and have studied and made art since 1971. My wife and I have been working to produce two distinct career paths, raise our two kids, and maintain a home and a relationship. We enjoy moments of success from time to time, amid the difficulties. And we try to maintain the perspective that our difficulties pale in comparison to those faced by many others.

My career has been an effort to balance the need to support myself and my family -- financially, emotionally and with raw time -- with the need to produce creative works. This document and a BBS for which I have been trying to resolve technical issues before going public, comprise an effort to share, for public expression and feedback, some of my efforts in the legal and creative fields.
